Press Release from Daytona Beach Breast Cancer Awareness Symposium
National Basketball Association referee, Eric Lewis, will honor his mother, Norma Lewis, breast cancer survivor by hosting the 1st Annual Daytona Beach Breast Cancer Symposium at the Center for Civic Engagement on the campus of Bethune-Cookman University, March 29, 2008 from 10:00 a.m.-2 p.m.
This event is sponsored in partnership with the Central Florida Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
This international organization was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died of breast cancer at the age of 36. Today Susan G. Komen for the Cure has a network of advocates working through local affiliates to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality of care for all and energizing the science to find the cures.
One of the goals of the Breast Cancer Symposium is to have women help other women by raising awareness about a disease that was, at one time, only spoken about in hushed tones.
This event will be unique, as specialists and patient groups will gather to exchange ideas and information concerning breast cancer.
As this is the first breast cancer symposium in Daytona, we look forward to making this a successful event. It is our hope that by helping to raise awareness about breast cancer through education, we will be able to provide support and hope to the community for many years to come.
This event is free and open to the community.
